Trifecta
Wildlife is in abundance in Baja California Del Sur. No one can predict all that you can see, in one day out on the water.
One day, we were in a small panga (a small boat similar to a zodiac in Mexico) on the search for wildlife and we were treated to a superpod of Common Dolphins.
While out on underwater expeditions, I carry two camera bodies with me at all times. I carry my underwater camera rig, as well as a topside kit protected in a Pelican case. This system has allowed me to be ready within seconds to switch to underwater or topside photography.
The super pod zoomed past our boat. I had the ability to switch to my topside kit and brace myself against the support pole on the panga. While photographing superpods on a fast-moving small, vibrational boat, the composition has to be thought of lightning fast. Usually, there are too many dolphins leaping, jumping, or spinning to make it hard to follow each photogenic opportunity. I am thrilled that my patience paid off in being able to photograph these three dolphins in a sequence among each other.
Certain species of Dolphins like distance in the water, Common Dolphins are one of these species. I utilized my time to do topside photography instead of trying to swim with the pod underwater.
